Trus Joist Treated Parallam® Plus PSL beams and headers deliver the ultimate in design flexibility, allowing for long, clear spans, while offering the benefits of preservative treatment for outdoor use. In January 2024, ¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ began transitioning to a new wood preservative for Treated Parallam Plus beams and headers. Long-time LBM dealers or users of Treated Parallam Plus might notice some small visual differences in shipments—but the same level of quality performance capabilities can be expected, plus consumers glean the in-field benefits of ¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ’s updated product labeling solution.
The new Treated Parallam Plus PSL wood preservative formulation utilizes micronized copper azole (MCA), which is more widely accepted in the LBM industry. MCA is a new and improved version of copper azole that provides the best quality solution to customers in the long term. This change enables dealers who distribute this Trus Joist® engineered wood product to reach broader markets and tout the overall appearance and improved stamp visibility of Treated Parallam Plus PSL.
Here are important features to know about the new Treated Parallam Plus PSL with MCA formulation:
- The color has shifted to a lighter brown tone, which is similar to Eastern species untreated Trus Joist Parallam® PSL, so care should be taken when identifying and storing units to avoid confusion.
- Treated Parallam Plus PSL with MCA is supported by a new code report (download it here).
- The 30-year dual warranty remains the same.
- ¹ú²ú×ÔÅÄ is transitioning to a new wrap with “Treated Parallam® Plus PSL” clearly visible.
- Treated Parallam Plus PSL columns, treated with CCA, will remain unchanged.
- ForteWEB® Software has been updated to incorporate the changes.
- Structural properties remain the same, making the beams and headers interchangeable during transition.
- All literature, samples, technical bulletins, code reports, and website have been revised accordingly
